Community Outreach Testimonies

Irene Ng - Volunteer (Financial Assistance)

I became involved with COSC in 2019 and was assigned to journey with Mdm Lim and her family.

Each month, I would deliver cheques prepared by church, whenever I visited the family. Over time, I developed a closer relationship with Mdm Lim and occasionally had the opportunity to meet Shao Tian or Patrick, her other son.

Last year, I invited both sons to attend Celebration Weekend. Patrick mentioned that he had also been invited by his EduGrow Mentor, Roger Chow.Roger and I arranged to bring both boys for Celebration Weekend together where they accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour!

It was an incredible moment of joy for all of us, as we celebrated God’s faithfulness. When the Alpha course began in July, both of them accepted our invitation to attend.

When the Lord prompts you, I encourage you to follow. Though our work may seem small, Matthew 25:40 reminds us “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Zenna Kua - Beneficiary (Starfish)

The church has been a great help to my family, providing us with free groceries that have eased our financial burden. Knowing we have food on the table has been a huge relief. They also offered us new furniture, giving us the chance to improve our home with better furnishings. The generosity and support we have received made a difference in our lives, and we are truly grateful for the help we’ve received.

Gladious Lim - Program Associate (Goodlife Makan)

I have been involved in the CMC Goodlife program for over a year.

The CMC Monday program, known as “Craft It”, has had a very positive impact on seniors. We have noticed many new seniors joining the program. They participate in activities such as arts and crafts, cooking, and games, which help them build friendships. The CMC volunteers are encouraging as they also dedicate time to sit and talk with the seniors, making them feel valued.

I am grateful for the energy and spirit that the CMC team brings in every program.

It is clear that they put their hearts into what they do.

I would like to encourage CMC members to join your team and come to Goodlife.

When you come to volunteer, you not only impact the lives of seniors in meaningful ways, but you also touch their hearts and create changes that we may never understand.

Adeline Ong - Beneficiary (Community Fridge)

I came to know about the Community Fridge from my neighbours and friends in my block. Coming to the Community Fridge on Saturdays is a form of “me time”.

I can interact with my friends and help at the pre-loved corner.

Sometimes when I collect the groceries, I will pass it on to my other neighbours in need. The community here at Block 20 helps each other out.

I feel the programme has benefitted me too. I love fruits so am happy to collect it from the Community Fridge. The CMC volunteers and neighbours know I love fruits so they will pass it on to me when there are extras.

Helping people is a good thing. When you do good to people, it’s doing good to yourself also.

Su Jinghua - Volunteer (Bursary Award)

I decided to sign up because Bible spoke to me, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10).

When I signed up to this event, actually I was torn as I had a family plan on the same Saturday. I was thinking, with so many people in church to help, would it really make a difference if I was there? After I went through this inner struggle, Holy Spirit inspired me to prioritise the things of God as my family outing could always be rescheduled to another day.

It was a joy to see the parents and students enjoying their meal with such happiness and contentment. I was reminded of God’s unconditional love, and a deep sense of gratitude filled my heart. I would like to encourage others to take a step to volunteer and to serve with a heart full of gratitude and joy, and let your actions reflect God’s love.

A quote that inspires me is, “It is more blessed to give than to receive”

Fanny Chiang - Volunteer (MWS Christalite Methodist Home)

It has been a joy volunteering in Christalite Methodist Home since it started its operations in 1997. Since then, I have volunteered with a group of members from the Cantonese Ministry.

We visit the residents once a month and they look forward to our visitations. We have brought some of them to know Christ. I am thankful that the residents enjoy our visits, and as a result, my heart is filled with joy. I would like to encourage many to experience this joy while you commit yourselves to volunteering.

A few mottos have been encouraging me to keep on serving:

  1. Serve God and others with a grateful heart.
  2. I’m blessed to be a blessing.
  3. Be a joyful and happy witness. 做个开心快乐见証人.

Mehrvn - Program Exec. (FILOS Active Ageing)

The partnership between CMC and Filos has a positive impact on the well-being of the participants.

The program offers them opportunities to stay active, connect with others, and discover new interests. We have seen how it enhances their well-being through activities that promote social interaction and mental stimulation.

For Filos, this program has strengthened our efforts in fostering a supportive community for seniors, helping them lead fulfilling and independent lives.

Volunteering is a beautiful way to make a difference in the lives of others.

I encourage church members to take that step, because not only do we bless others through volunteering, but we also receive joy, fulfilment, and a deeper sense of purpose in return.

On behalf of Filos Active Ageing Centre, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for CMC’s invaluable support and dedication to our seniors. Your efforts have brought joy, engagement, and enrichment to their lives.

Mr Yee - Beneficiary (FILOS Active Ageing)

I am currently 78 years old. I have participated in the Filos activities since it started about five years ago since I was introduced to this programme. I initially did not want to attend but came to check it out. Now, it has become part of my routine to spend time here.

I like doing the Art & Craft and drawing. I find the programme refreshing and suitable for me and it is varied, and I have learnt new things. Previously, when I stayed at home, it was quite boring as there was nothing to do except to watch tv and sleep.

I would like to let the CMC volunteers know that you did well to come here to serve with love.

Linda Sethi - Volunteer (Assisi Hospice)

The patients at Assisi hospice are terminally ill and at most times they are in pain and feeling depressed. Being a Befriender there, I have the opportunity to talk to them, cheer them up, and even serve them a cup of Kopi or Teh just like those at Ya Kun or Toast Box.

It warms my heart, whenever they smile, laugh with us and give us a thumbs up to show that they enjoyed what we served to them. It is indeed a blessing to be able to reach out to these patients and their family members at Assisi.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10

Lynette Ng - Volunteer (EduGrow Programme)

I was apprehensive when I was first asked if I would be interested to volunteer as a PSLE Prep tutor by The Hut. This entailed me spending Wednesday evenings spanning 4-5 months. However, I felt a prompting from the Lord and decided to agree to it.

It seemed like an uphill task to motivate the two students who were assigned to me. There were weeks when I left our sessions wondering if I made a difference. But I knew I had to persevere. I prayed for wisdom to find new ways to break down the topics into more manageable steps.

This experience was far from easy. However, nothing can describe the joy when the PSLE results were announced. Both students texted me, sharing that they passed and had made it to the secondary school of their choice.

Looking back, I realize that while I set out to help by teaching, I was also blessed by this experience.

Robert Teo - Beneficiary (Community Fridge)

My neighbours in Block 53 told me about the Community Fridge programme.

My wife asked me to come and collect because here there are free things like rice, canned food, etc. The eggs and bread are useful to my wife and me for breakfast. All thanks to God.

I enjoy interacting with all the volunteers at Block 20 because everyone is friendly and good to me. It’s also good for me to walk here and talk to friends.

Come and volunteer if you have free time.

Ong Boon Cheng - Assistant Manager (Goodlife)

The Goodlife “Craft It” program has become one of the most treasured and meaningful programs.

Over the years, I’ve seen the impact of the program, and it’s no longer just about the activities.

It has evolved into a time of connection, and the number of participants continue to increase. It’s more than just a learning experience with cooking demos, arts and crafts, or games. It has become an opportunity for social bonding, where participants gather to meet friends and CMC volunteers. Strong friendships have been formed through this program.

I truly appreciate everything the CMC team has done. I can clearly see their passion, initiative, and teamwork. The team shows their sincerity in getting to know the seniors, rather than just running a typical program.

“I encourage the CMC team to continue their excellent work, and I sincerely thank you for all your efforts over the years.”

Marion Soon - Volunteer (MWS Christalite Methodist Home)

I signed up as volunteer at Christalite Methodist Home after there was a call for volunteers during one of the services. I wanted to serve in a ministry where I can befriend the elderly or needy. The residents look forward to our visits and willingly participate in the activities. I feel so blessed to spend time with them and see the joy and smiles on their faces.

Some are physically unwell and some are struggling mentally, but despite their circumstances, they still show joy when we visit them. I am thankful that God can use me in this area to bring a little joy to their long days. When we ask them how we can pray for them, we really hear what is truly in their hearts and we remember that they are someone’s mother or daughter or sister.

It is truly more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35

Low Zhaoting - Volunteer (Bursary Award)

As a time-starved individual, the Bursary Award involvement required just an afternoon of my time – a great way to be a part of CMC’s outreach efforts in supporting local underprivileged communities.

While some families were happy to share more about themselves, others preferred to be left alone. For these families, I prayed for the Lord’s wisdom in engaging them and used the opportunity of walking them to the buffet line to share about CMC’s community activities, such as soccer or tuition.

One family shared about their family life and how the bursary was a blessing to them, which encourages the recipient to continue doing their best at school. This was the recipient’s second time receiving the award from CMC. It was also a joy to witness younger bursary recipients enjoying their time at the activities planned for them and having fun interacting with newfound friends.

Linda Oh - WSCS Volunteer (Community Fridge)

When exposed to the outreach programs at CMC, I helped as a befriender to beneficiaries of CMC’s bursary program. Later, as a WSCS member, helped with food donation/distribution at Marine Terrace which is under the care of CMC. While the journey is extremely fulfilling, there were times I felt like the outreach wasn’t yielding results. I started re-focus on the objective of volunteering and was reminded to seek God’s strength, protection and wisdom.

Over time, I saw God’s hand at work and things were realised, according to His Plan. In fact, I gained more than I gave as volunteering challenged my mindset and allowed me to bond with people at different levels.

I encourage anyone to try and God will lead you to where He wants you to be.

Overseas Outreach Testimonies

Chea Srey Mich - KSMC Member (Krang Svay, Cambodia)

When we heard there was going to be Worship training, my church members and I were so happy. We couldn’t wait to see what God would teach us, and I thanked God for allowing this to happen again after so many years. I thank God for His word through Pastor Rupert. He reminded me of the true meaning of worship and that being an introvert is not an excuse for not raising my hands to worship and praise God.

After the Worship training, we have witnessed so much improvement in our church – not only in the Worship team’s technical skills but also in our stronger faith, where we individually seek more of Him not only on Sundays but everyday, with our actions at work, home and everywhere we go and in all that we do.

We have also learnt not to deny our calling. We are excited every week to worship God and learn His word together. This Worship training has taught us not only to know and understand about worship and God, but encouraged us to keep pursuing Him together so that we will be on fire to always serve Him and worship.

Thanks CMC for your constant support and encouragement to our KSMC, for your time, love and dedication to the kingdom of God and allowing it to overflow to our Church. We had such a wonderful time making friends and learning together. God bless CMC abundantly.

Hayley Tan - CMC Tripper (Krang Svay, Cambodia)

I had a blast!!! Here, let me share it with you!

Before the trip, I was nervous that I would have no one to play or hang out with. I was worried that I would get lost or that people would not like us. But during the trip, I realised that people loved us and I had a lot of people to play with.

I enjoyed helping the children comb the lice out of their hair. I also liked teaching the children to brush their teeth. I learned during the trip to spread the word of God and help people. And I want people to know how good the trip was and encourage them to go!

Aurelia Tan - WSCS Tripper (Hanoi)

This was my second trip to Priscilla Center (PC) in Hanoi, Vietnam, and I found it very meaningful.

I put my administrative skills to good use by organising a tight program with 7 like-minded Christian ladies who wanted to serve the underprivileged in Hanoi.

Priscilla Centre is a Drug Rehabilitation Centre for ladies which was started by former hardcore drug addict Ps Trung.

The Friday devotion, trauma healing sessions, line dancing and Nasi Lemak cooking classes were met with enthusiasm. We had some breakthroughs as the ladies shared their life stories willingly. Language was not a barrier as the resident translator and our very own Sarah Nguyen were proficient in getting their words and emotions across.

It was such a blessing to see the girls warm up to us and we are looking forward to our next mission trip to reconnect with them in Hanoi.

Mary Ann Chua - WSCS Tripper (Hanoi)

We visited Priscilla Center, in Hanoi, Vietnam. This is the women section of Aquila Drug Rehabilitation Center where women are undergoing treatment for drug addiction.

Healing comes from God’s Word. The founder was himself a former drug addict whose life was transformed by God.

This was my third visit to the PC and I facilitated the session on Praying the Bible. One of the residents seemed spaced out as she was quiet all time. Suddenly she stood up declared emphatically that in Psalm 121 “God is the perfect protector!”

This God strengthened my faith. He is the Living Word. In missions, our focus is to show God’s love and sow His Word. The Lord of the harvest will prepare the good soil in the hearts of the people we reach out to. He will make it grow.

Tyrone Lopez - CMC Volunteer (Operation Mobilisation)

I accompanied my wife, Sharon, on a ‘street walk’ night organised by OM (Operation Mobilization) to befriend migrant workers living in the Geylang area. I saw Bangladeshi migrant workers sitting on the grass and I stopped to speak with them. What began as a simple greeting turned into a warm, genuine conversation.

Sensing their openness, I invited them to join us for dinner in the future at the OM office nearby. A couple of weeks later to my joy, they came. Though they are not believers, they welcomed our presence and friendship. They spoke about their families back home, the long hours of work, and the dreams they carried. We didn’t preach but simply showed up wanting to make friends, showing that we are different but genuine.

After six months many have become friends and they are open to us praying for them and their families. This reminds me that outreach isn’t always planned with programs or events. God works through those simple steps of obedience, and He creates the Divine appointments.

1 Corinthians 3:6 “I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow”.

Albert & Patricia Wee - WSCS Volunteers (Operation Mobilisation)

We have been serving with a group of like-minded Christians in the OM (Operation Mobilisation) ministry at Geylang for several years now. We head to the streets to visit the streetwalkers and foreign workers, bearing practical gifts, but more importantly, offering biblical encouragement. Over time, we have seen how faithful visits and simple acts of kindness can nurture deep relationships.

As months go by these individuals start opening up more and more, even talking about their families to us.

Many times, people think serving is only about blessing others. But in truth, we have found that the Lord often blesses us through these encounters. God moves in ways we do not always understand. He is sovereign, gracious and always at work—even in the most unexpected places.

Serving in Geylang is not always easy. But the light of Christ shines brightest in the darkest places. We simply go to be present, to listen, to pray, and to sow seeds of love.

2 Corinthians 4:7 “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”
