Frequently Asked Questions
Understanding Baptism, Membership & Reaffirmation
1. What is Baptism?
Baptism is a sacrament of the church and an outward sign of God’s grace at work in your life. It is also a public declaration of your faith in Jesus Christ and your decision to follow Him.
At Christ Methodist Church (CMC), candidates may be baptised either by immersion or sprinkling.
If you have already received a Christian baptism, you do not need to be baptised again when applying for Membership but we do require a copy of your baptism certificate.
2. What is Membership?
Membership is your commitment to make CMC your church community and to participate in the life and mission of the church.
To apply for CMC Membership, you must have been part of a CMC Care Group (CG) for at least 6 months, complete the relevant application form and interview, and complete the One-Day Baptism & Membership Class.
3. What is Reaffirmation of Faith?
Reaffirmation of Faith is for a person who has already been baptised and would like to publicly renew and reaffirm their commitment to Jesus Christ and the Christian faith.
Unlike Baptism, the person is not baptised again. Instead, during the service, they publicly reaffirm the faith and promises associated with their Baptism.

5. Can I apply for Baptism and Membership at the same time?

Membership
10. I want to become a CMC Member. What do I need to do?
On 19 December 2026, please report at 8.30 am for the classes. You will be received into Membership during the 4.30 pm Saturday Service, where your Membership certificate will also be presented.
- Have been part of a CMC Care Group for at least 6 months

You may apply for Membership and go through the Membership preparation process.
12. I attended the Baptism & Membership Class before. Do I need to attend again?
If you completed the class within the last 2 years, you do not need to attend the class again when applying for Membership.
You will still need to meet the other Membership requirements, including being part of a CMC Care Group for at least 6 months, and complete the relevant application and interview process.
Baptism & Reaffirmation of Faith
13. I want to be baptised, but I’m not applying for Membership yet. Do I need to attend the class?
The full-day class is not compulsory for Baptism-only candidates, but we strongly encourage you to attend.
Once you complete the class, it is valid for 2 years. If you decide to apply for CMC Membership within the next 2 years, you will not need to attend the class again. You will, however, still need to fulfil the other Membership requirements.
14. What do I need to say during my Baptism? Do I need to memorise anything?
No. Everyone being baptised will receive a personalised card with their name on it and the relevant liturgy printed on the back.
You can refer to the card during the service, so there is no need to memorise the liturgy.
15. I am being baptised by immersion. What should I bring?
Towels will be provided, and toilet/changing facilities will be available.
After your immersion baptism, you will still need to attend the 4.30 pm Service, as the service liturgy includes those who have been baptised by immersion.
- Dark-coloured clothing for your baptism
- A change of clothes to wear for the 4.30 pm Service
- A cardigan or jacket if needed, as the Sanctuary may be cold
16. I am going through Reaffirmation of Faith. What do I need to attend?
Reaffirmation of faith is for a person who has already been baptised and would like to publicly renew and reaffirm their commitment to Jesus Christ and the Christian faith.
Unlike Baptism, the person is not baptised again. Instead, they enter the baptismal pool before the 4.30 pm service as a sign of reaffirmation.
The full-day ODBMC is encouraged but not compulsory.
Please report at 8.30 am on 19 December 2026. You must also attend the 3.00 pm briefing at Auditorium 1 and will participate in the immersion in the baptismal pool before the 4.30 pm service and reaffirmation during the 4.30 pm Saturday Service.
Before 19 December 2026, you will need to complete the relevant application and attend an interview with a CMC ministry staff member or pastor.
